ABOUT EDEL
I grew up in West Clare and lived in New York for 15 years, I now live in Ennis Co. Clare.
In 2017 I started studying in LSAD in Limerick, where I discovered clay and I decided I would do my degree course in ceramics. I am now in my fourth year in ceramics and graduating in May of 2021.
I find inspiration for my work in seashells. I am interested in studying the repeat patterns and forms found in seashells. I am exploring the translucency of porcelain. the beauty of porcelain is it's natural material, when the porcelain is bare it is showing the natural characteristics of clay.

Tranquil Recollections

The intricacy and detail observed in sea-shells gathered along the shoreline provided the starting point for this work. Like Faberge eggs, these objects are rich in luxurious embellishment, exuding preciousness. Through harnessing the natural translucency of porcelain with the introduction of light and stoneware glaze, my work aims to sensitively reflect these natural and exquisite characteristics of pattern and surface, emphasizing the jeweled quality on natural form and elevating to the status of precious object.
Designed to fit within the domestic context, these luminated objects introduce a harmonious and aesthetic focal point. The reflection of warm light on intricate surface promotes tranquility, evoking the feelings of a stroll along the beach at sunset.
